Henry Charles "Harry" Bamford was born in St Phillips Marsh, Bristol on 8th February 1920. He played for Bristol Rovers from 1945-1958 making 486 league appearances, the second highest in Rovers history, scoring 5 goals. After his death in a motorcycle accident in 1958 his legacy would live on via The Harry Bamford Trophy which is awarded to the outstanding Player of the Year in terms of good sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct both on and off the field.
